I served these makeup treats at a Mary Kay party I had last month. And by makeup treats, I mean edible!
I had seen the idea in “Cupcakes, Cookies, & Pie, Oh My!” A book by the the same authors who originally inspired my love of cupcakes with their first book, “Hello, Cupcake.”
Once I had my Mary Kay party planned, I knew it was the perfect reason to give these treats a try!
As usual, I couldn’t find all the ingredients required, and so I substituted and played around with my own colors and such to make them my own. See below for a tutorial on each treat!
The eye shadow palette. The base is a Keebler chocolate covered graham cracker. Next, I dipped a pretzel stick into Wilton dark cocoa candy melts. (Melted chocolate chips would work in a pinch.) As I tend to do, I realized I had forgotten one ingredient – mini marshmallows. But I had a jar of marshmallow creme, so I mixed that with powdered sugar until it was a consistency that could be rolled out. I then cut tiny circles and shaped them into “pads” and attached them onto the ends of the pretzels sticks. Did you know Starburst now come unwrapped in mini size? That’s what the “eye shadow” colors are. Everything was attached with the candy melts.
The blush. These are made from Keebler Grasshopper cookies. Attach a brown Mini M&M to the top. Then roll out a pink Tootsie Roll and use a round cookie cutter to cut out your “blush”. The tricky part was keeping them open. Dab a bit of candy melts onto one edge of the Tootsie Roll. Add a cookie on top, and use a spoon to hold the cookies apart until the chocolate had set.
The mascara. The wand is another chocolate dipped pretzel, with the end covered in chocolate jimmies. Attach that to a Keebler fudge stick cookie and decorate with a rolled out orange tootsie roll. Again, everything is attached with candy melts.
Tip: Work with chilled cookies, so they don’t melt while you’re trying to assemble them.
I had a fantastic time at my party – awesome makeup tricks, soft skin tips, girlfriends, wine and makeup treats. So much so, that I decided to become a Mary Kay consultant! It’s something I had thought and prayed about for awhile, and then suddenly, it just felt right. I’m so excited to see where it leads, but in the meantime, check out my personal Mary Kay web site.
But never fear, Linnycakes.com isn’t going anywhere. :)
